He was standing on the edge of retaining wall behind house and his boughs were hanging over roofs of my house as well as the neighbour’s. The neighbour had been pestering me to remove it for over a decade, insisting the tree would be blown down by wind. I always believed no wind would take it down although boughs/branches may be broken off and fall on roof. I became more concerned about the weight of whole trunk and the strength of the land/retaining structure underneath, especially after the series of earthquakes last year.
Wow… what a lot of work! I liked the way that he looked, too, but safety first.
Hi Deb,
He was an awesome tree, full of characters, with many boughs sticking out from the base level; and Arwen loved to climb up.
Why did he have to come down? He was beautiful.
